Closing Plenary, 5th UN Conference on Competition PolicyInternational cooperation is needed to help countries reform or enforce their competition laws, and also to implement the competition provisions of international agreements, Dr. Supachai told a UN conference here on restrictive business practices. He said that while the number of regional trade agreements with provisions on competition has grown, these provisions cannot always address the problems faced by weaker or more inexperienced players.

At the conference, which was organized by UNCTAD as the only international organization working on competition policy, Dr. Supachai launched a new UNCTAD analysis of competition rules in regional trade agreements, which shows that developing countries create their own competition rules for global markets.
