26 Feb 11 - United Nations Chief Executive Board mission to the occupied Palestinian territory
An UNCTAD mission from Technical Cooperation Services and the Assistance to the Palestinian People Unit went to the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), from 13-19 February, to follow up on efforts to introduce a joint programme of the United Nations Chief Executive Board (CEB) Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity in the oPt.
This Joint Programme will include the ongoing and planned operations of UNIDO, ESCWA, UNDP, ITC, ILO, FAO, WFP and UNCTAD.
After consulting with the United Nations Resident Coordinator and all the concerned agencies, the mission met with four Palestinian Ministers (National Economy, Planning, Agriculture and Labour) and the Deputy Minister of Finance, representatives from the civil society, and six representatives from the donor community.
All parties expressed their support for this initiative. It was highlighted that the initiative will have a critical and positive impact on an area that needs special attention for the recovery and sustained development of the war-torn Palestinian economy. It was agreed to continue the serious efforts to roll out, and seek funding for the implementation of, this initiative in the oPt.
