04 Mar 11 - United Nations Chief Executives Board Cluster to assist the Republic of Serbia within the context of the United Nations Country Partnership Strategy

Serbian Coat of ArmsUNCTAD, coordinating agency of the United Nations Chief Executives Board (CEB) Interagency Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity, participated on 1 March 2011 in the first National Steering Committee Meeting for the United Nations Country Partnership Strategy for Serbia.


The United Nations Country Partnership Strategy for Serbia will implement programmes and activities from 2011 to 2015 in the areas of governance, sustainable development and social inclusion, and regional stability and cooperation.

Serbia will officially propose its candidacy for the European Union (EU) in 2012 and the Country Partnership Program aims to assist Serbia with its EU membership ambitions. The CEB Interagency Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity has been asked to assist the Government with its economic reforms.

The Cluster is expected to support Serbia with high-level economic policy advice and capacity-building expertise on competition and regional trade-market integration.

During the meeting, the United Nations Resident Coordinator emphasized the shift from previous United Nations intervention focused on political and institutional issues towards economic development. The Resident Coordinator stressed the importance of the Cluster's intervention in Serbia, which will benefit from the participating agencies' complementary expertise. He ensured the Cluster of his full support for the design and implementation of coordinated and effective joint operations to be carried out within the United Nations Partnership Strategy on enhanced economic development and European integration.
