The Government of Ukraine and the United Nations have mapped out their cooperation through their partnership framework on a number of important issues over the next four years.

Signing the formal partnership documentThe formal partnership document - Government of Ukraine-United Nations Partnership Framework 2012-2016 - was signed on 24 March 2011 by Mr. Andriy Klyuyev, First Vice Prime Minister-Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, and Mr. Olivier Adam, United Nations Resident Coordinator.

UNCTAD played a major role in the formulation of the Framework, ensuring that due attention was given in the document to international trade and productive capacity building as important components of economic development. UNCTAD also worked to have the UN assistance to the country supported by the UN-CEB Interagency Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity. These efforts helped shape the first part of the document, which deals with sustainable economic growth. Other topical areas of the Framework include poverty reduction, social development, governance and environment, and climate change.

The proposed assistance responds to the national priorities of Ukraine in the economic sector. These priorities include the development of a favourable business environment by reducing administrative barriers for business, modernizing the tax system and deepening the international economic integration of the country.

A resource mobilization exercise is expected to take place throughout 2011, led by the United Nations Resident Coordinator with the Government of Ukraine, to help prepare for the implementation activities that will begin in 2012.
