Shanghai Design Week (5-11 September 2013)

The Shanghai Design Week was organized by the Shanghai government with the purpose to promote the construction of "city of design" and support the innovation driven transformation and development of Shanghai.​

The Shanghai Promotion Center for the City of Design within the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information works in the development of Shanghai as City of Design distinguished by UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Activities included exhibitions, forums, seminars, roundtables, competitions, fairs and business connection meetings which present the latest achievements in Shanghai design industry in the major fields of industrial design, fashion design, architectural design, multimedia design and others.

The Cultural and creative industries in Shanghai have achieved the total output of 769.54 billion Yuan ($125 billion dollars) and accounted for 11.29 per cent of Shanghai's GDP in 2012.

UNCTAD was invited to participate at the roundtable discussions on how to position and develop Shanghai as a creative city for Design and to present the UNCTAD Academic Exchange Network on Creative Economy.

The Florence Municipal Government and the Shanghai Creative City of Design Promotion Office established the "Shanghai-Florence Sino-Italian Design Exchange Center" which is located in Florence, Italy and which will help Chinese creators to tap into services of brand design studio, industry connection, overseas training and business services to assist the exploration of European markets.
