OFADEC and Coordination SUD apply for observer status with UNCTAD

The UNCTAD secretariat has received applications from the Office Africain pour le Développement et la Coopération (OFADEC) and Coordination SUD (Solidarité Urgence Développement) for observer status as civil society organizations. The applications are being duly considered by the member States of UNCTAD.

Headquartered in Paris, France, Coordination SUD is a non-profit association founded in 1994 that brings together some 140 French non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with a focus on humanitarian aid, development assistance, environmental protection, defending the rights of disadvantaged persons, international solidarity, education and advocacy.

Coordination SUD aims at coordinating the activities of French NGOs in the area of emergency aid and development.  It fulfils a dual mission of supporting the professionalization of French NGOs and representing their positions to public and private institutions in France, Europe and around the world.
 
The Executive Director of Coordination SUD is Mr. Daniel Verger.
 
Headquartered in Dakar, Senegal, OFADEC is a Senegalese non-profit organization that was created in 1976 to work on development-related issues in the Sahel region. Its areas of activity are integrated rural development, the protection and assistance of refugees and the promotion of human rights. For instance, OFADEC has helped sustain the agricultural programmes of 21 economic interest groups active in banana production in eastern Senegal.
 
OFADEC works to promote integrated sustainable development, fair trade and farmer protection in the Sahel region.
 
Mr. Mamadou Ndiaye is the Executive Director of OFADEC.
