UNCTAD EPF methodology contributes to panel on economic development in Ghana

11 September 2012

UNCTAD's Entrepreneurship Policy Framework methodology was applied to the Ghanaian context in a multi-stakeholder event organized by UNCTAD and the Ghanaian Panel on Economic Development, under the auspices of the Friedrich  Ebert Foundation and ISSER-University of Ghana.

Ghana's experience in developing its Private Sector Development Strategy reflects a comprehensive and inclusive process based on wide consultation with stakeholders in Ghana, in order to ensure that it is a broad-based policy embraced by all stakeholders.

The Government of Ghana continues to actively incorporate feedback from lessons learnt and promotes dynamic economic policy development. For example, in 2011, the Government - together with other stakeholders - gathered at a workshop organized by UNCTAD and the Ghanaian Panel on Economic Development, under the auspices of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and ISSER-University of Ghana.
Experts discussed that, despite economic achievements, current economic transformation is too slow to create decent employment opportunities for the rapidly growing and young workforce in Ghana. The rural areas and provinces in the North in particular risk marginalization.

Against this framework, and following UNCTAD's Entrepreneurship Policy Framework methodology, the issues discussed included how to better integrate entrepreneurship into the country's Second National Medium Term Private Sector Development Strategy as a means to address these challenges.
