New head of UNCTAD office in New York being recruited

The position of Chief of UNCTAD's New York Office will become vacant in November this year with the retirement of the present incumbent. The post has been advertised. Deadline for applications is 18 September 2012.​

The Chief of Office, at P-5 level, represents UNCTAD within the UN Secretariat and at intergovernmental meetings at Headquarters, maintains close contact with New York delegations, media, academia, NGO's and civil society representatives, and ensures coordination with UN bodies, organs and Specialized Agencies.

Among the required competencies is advanced first hand knowledge of the UN economic and social sector, in particular UNCTAD's role, mandates and activities.

An advanced university degree in economics or closely related field with exposure to economic development, international trade or international economic relations is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in international organizations and/or government with substantial international experience, in particular on trade and development issues, and participation in intergovernmental deliberations thereon are also requirements.
