According to preliminary estimates by UNCTAD and WTO, in 2011, world services exports rose by 11%, compared to 10% increase from the year before.
According to preliminary estimates by UNCTAD and WTO, in 2011, world services exports rose by 11%, compared to 10% increase from the year before. During 2011, transition economies’ and developing countries’ total exports of services expanded at a pace greater than the world average, with the exception of the African region, which marked a very modest estimated growth of 0.3%.

The exports of the two main services categories, transport and travel, augmented by 8.5 and 12% respectively in 2011. This represented a considerable slowdown in transport exports, especially in developing Asia and Africa, after the significant recovery of 2010 (+15.3%). On the other hand, world travel exports accelerated in 2011, most notably in developed and transition economies, with only North Africa recording a drop in this domain.

Starting this year, statistics on international trade in services released by the UNCTAD and WTO are being produced jointly by the two organizations in an effort to improve data quality, avoid duplication and consequently provide more transparent data to users of these statistics.
