Kyrgyz Republic seeks closer cooperation with UNCTAD

​In a letter addressed to UNCTAD Secretary-General, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic expressed appreciation for the technical assistance received so far from UNCTAD and highlighted a number of areas for potential future cooperation.

​In a letter addressed to UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. Ruslan Kazakbaev, expressed appreciation for the technical assistance received from UNCTAD that has "markedly contributed to development of free market economy and open trade" in Kyrgyzstan.



The Kyrgyz Foreign Minister expressed the hope that cooperation could be enhanced both "in scope and scale" to assist Kyrgyzstan in addressing current and future needs in international trade and investment, and looked forward to signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Kyrgyzstan and UNCTAD.



A draft of the memorandum of understanding lists possible areas of cooperation such as an Investment Policy Review, organising a Silk Road Investment Forum in Bishkek, strategic and technical assistance to the Kyrgyz State Customs Service through the ASYCUDA programme, and support for entrepreneurship activities through the EMPRETEC programme.
