Global re-balancing required says Dr. Supachai at investors forum in Hong Kong

"No country will be spared in the case of a new financial shock in the developed countries," UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi told the 19th CLSA Investors' Forum in Hong Kong yesterday, and warned that a renewed shock "would provoke a stream of capital flows reversals, shrinking global trade volumes and falling commodity prices with negative consequences for all."

Maldives port managers complete 9-day training course

Twenty-two middle managers from Maldives Ports Ltd have successfully completed their training in Male from 2-10 September in Module 7 of the UNCTAD port training programme.
12-week on-line training course on trade and poverty kicks off with 103 participants from 54 countries

The UNCTAD Virtual Institute kicked off its on-line course on trade and poverty yesterday, the first phase of a broader research capacity building project funded by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Government of Finland. The course will conclude on 30 November this year.

Attending the 16th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) being held in Xiamen, China from 8-11 September, UNCTAD Deputy Secretary-General Petko Draganov opened the UNCTAD-Ministry of Commerce side-event on “Towards a Greener Energy Future: International Investment in Advanced Fossil Fuel Technologies," as well as the Launch of the Chinese version of the UNCTAD World Investment Report 2012, and a seminar on the New Generation of Investment Policies.
