Step 1: The customer sends a data request to the FDI Data Extract Service Desk of UNCTAD/DIAE by e-mail (
fdistat@unctad.org) or fax (+41 22 917 0194). The description of the requested data should contain the following:
- The reporting country/region
- The partner country/region
- The year(s) of interest
- Type of data (FDI - flows or stock, inward or outward). For details, see the table on availability of the data on FDI and TNCs on the UNCTAD/DIAE website)
- Industry (all industries or specific sector/industry)
- Currency (US dollars or local currency)
Important: when sending an email please insert the following text in your subject/reference/re. box:
In this way you will give us an indication that your email is not spam. You may, of course, add any other text in the subject box as well. |
Step 2: The FDI Data Extract Service Desk of UNCTAD/DITE will thereafter inform the customer of a suggested financial contribution based on the submitted request.
Step 3: The customer will have to confirm the data request and the corresponding contribution by e-mail (
fdistat@unctad.org) or fax (+41 22 917 0194).
Step 4: The customer will have to agree to the following in writing:
"The data are copyrighted by UNCTAD and are provided for internal use and should not be re-disseminated in any form and for any purpose, including commercial use."
Step 5: UNCTAD/DIAE will send an invoice.
Step 6: The customer sends the money to the following bank account with the reference number (INT/0T/2CW) and donor/sources of funds (TXB).

Step 7: Once the money is received by UNCTAD, the FDI Data Extract Service Desk of UNCTAD/DIAE will prepare the data in Excel format and send the data by e-mail, normally within 5 working days.
Suggested Contribution
Financial contribution for customized data sets is based on the number of records supplied. Each record contains information on (a) - (f) in Step 1 of the data request procedure (e.g. one record is "US FDI outflows in Mexico in all industries in 2001 in US dollars").
The contribution formula is:
- US$50 as basic fee for each request to cover administrative costs.
- US$15 per 100 records up to 50,000 records; and
- US$7.50 per 100 records over 50,000 records
The data sets are sent through e-mail at no extra charge. If the data are delivered on a CD-ROM, additional US$25 is suggested for handling and shipment charges.
