Within the framework for the preparations for UNCTAD XI, a civil society meeting was convened during the fiftieth session of the Trade and Development Board of UNCTAD, from 15 to 16 October 2003 in Geneva.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform civil society actors and involve them in the preparatory process and the Conference itself. Civil society representatives participating in the meeting had an opportunity to exchange information through two presentations.
The first one focused on UNCTAD's mandate as the UN focal point for the integrated treatment of trade and development and related issues in the areas of finance, technology, investment and sustainable development.
The second presentation gave a preliminary overview of the structure and organization of a series of events and activities to be held before and during the Conference.
The Preparatory Committee for UNCTAD XI invited civil society to deliver its statement on 17 October 2003.
