The Secretary-General of UNCTAD, Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi is convening the Third Geneva Dialogue as part of the UNCTAD Public Symposium.
The first dialogue discussed the possible new development goals and the contribution that can be made by trade and other related areas.
The second dialogue centred on the multilateral trading system in the post-Bali period and the synergies with the new development agenda.
The 3rd Geneva Dialogue will take up the theme of "Trade as a means of Implementation for Sustainable Development".
The dialogue will endeavour to:
Clarify what is at stake in the discussions on the new development agenda among UN Member States in New York in the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals and in the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on Sustainable Development Financing.
Provide a platform for exchange of views on meaningful "targets" and "indicators" that would ensure that trade functions as an enabler, and an effective means of implementation and strengthened global partnership for inclusive and sustainable development.
Participants will include member States, international organizations, private sector, academia and civil society.
