UNCTAD in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship of Croatia and the University of Kiel is organizing a conference on FDI and key issues relevant to the analysis of international investment agreements (IIAs) for economies in transition.
The objective of the conference is to help policy makers and negotiators deepen their understanding and analysis of the key issues in IIAs, identify trends and issues that need to be considered, and ensure policy coherence between national development policies and IIAs.
The conferenceaims to enhance the capacity of the economies in transition to negotiate IIAs and to assist them to participate effectively in discussions and negotiations of IIAs.
The conference will also raise awareness on new developments of particular importance to countries in the region such as:
- the investment competence of the EU after the Lisbon Treaty;
- the new regional Investment Treaty EURASEC;
- the inclusion of health, environmental and labour standards in IIAs; and
- how to strengthen the development dimension of these treaties.
