Agreement on recommendations of the Panel of Eminent Persons

Following informal consultations led by H.E. Ambassador Burhan Gafoor of Singapore, the Trade and Development Board reached agreement on the recommendations presented in the Report of the Panel of Eminent Persons.

At its 41st executive session on 19 April 2007, the Trade and Development Board endorsed the agreed outcome of the informal consultations on the recommendations of the Report of the Panel of Eminent Persons: Enhancing the development role and impact of UNCTAD.

H.E. Ambassador Burhan Gafoor of Singapore, who facilitated the informal open-ended consultations that led to the agreed outcome, said:

 

I would commend this document for approval by the Trade and Development Board, in the form that it has been tabled and without any amendments. It is not a perfect document but it represents a balance of different perspectives. I believe the agreed outcome also represents a small step forward in the discussions on the Report of the Eminent Persons Report

 

The challenge now is to translate these recommendations into concrete outcomes and, thus, achieve practical results.
