Second Report of the UNCTAD Panel of Eminent Persons to be released

A special event to mark the release of the Second Report of the UNCTAD Secretary-General's Panel of Eminent Persons, entitled "Addressing Key Economic Issues to Advance Sustainable Development: Ideas for Actions", will take place on 21 May 2013, from 15:30-17:30, in room XXVI of the Palais des Nations.

Second Report of the UNCTAD Secretary-General's Panel of Eminent Persons, entitled "Addressing Key Economic Issues to Advance Sustainable Development: Ideas for Actions", will be introduced by the Chair of the Panel, Her Excellency Ms. Tarja Halonen, former President of Finland, and the co-Chair, Professor Jagdish Bhagwati from Columbia University, United States of America.

This will be followed by remarks by Her Excellency Ms. Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, Vice-President of the Dominican Republic, and by remarks by Her Excellency Ms. Mari Elka Pangestu, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia (via video-link).

After the Eminent Persons' introduction, Supachai Panitchpakdi, Secretary-General of UNCTAD, will share his reflections on the Report, in a document entitled "UNCTAD Today and Tomorrow".

The special event will be chaired by His Excellency Mr. Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Ambassador of Kazakhstan and President of the Trade and Development Board. Copies of both documents will be made available in the room.

The Panel was asked by the Secretary-General to advise him, in the personal capacity of its members, on the key and emerging economic development challenges of today, and provide concrete ideas for international initiatives on how to deal with them, and how to strategically position UNCTAD in this context.
