DESCRIPTION:The fifth meeting of the Forum\, organized by UNCTAD with the s
 upport of its partners\, is a major multi-stakeholder meeting where partic
 ipants will be able to discuss potential solutions to perennial problems i
 n the commodity economy.\n\nThe theme of the Forum is “Global value chai
 ns\, transparency\, and commodity-based development”.  \n\nDuring the f
 irst day of the Forum\, participants will explore issues and experiences i
 n the commodity sector through the lens of regional and global value chain
 s\, a concept that extends beyond sector and supply chain perspectives\, t
 o encompass issues such as responsible investment\, regional interdependen
 cies and equitable value distribution.\n\nImproved governance is another k
 ey issue in commodity global value chains\, especially as regulatory refor
 m gathers pace in the extractive\, trading and derivatives sectors. For ex
 ample:\n\n\n\nHow does private global governance operate through value cha
 ins?\n\n\nHow does private governance interact with public governance in r
 egulating or shaping standards and performance in the commodity sector?\n\
 n\n\nIndeed\, governance provides the link between global value chains\, a
 nd the second day of the Forum is devoted to transparency.\n\nParticipants
  will begin by examining the various perspectives on transparency held by 
 stakeholders such as governments\, industry and civil society\, aiming to 
 arrive at common principles that can contribute to the transparency-themed
  regulatory reform in the commodities sector.\n\nSubsequent sessions will 
 address specific issues such as new legislation\, disclosure rules\, data 
 analysis and sharing\, and institutional requirements.\n\nThe Forum will a
 lso look at case studies: countries’ multifaceted approaches to enhancin
 g transparency\, as well as multi-stakeholder efforts such as the Extracti
 ve Industries Transparency Initiative.\n&lt\;p class=&quot\;ExternalClass5
