UNCTAD in cooperation with Sierra Leone’s National Investment Board (NIB) will organize a technical assistance workshop on key issues in International Investment Agreements (IIAs) for Sierra Leone’s Government officials dealing with investment policies.
The workshop will shed light on the global and regional trends in IIAs and investor - State dispute settlement before tackling the key provisions found in IIAs and their development implications.
The workshop will also provide an analysis of the bilateral investment treaties (BITs) concluded by Sierra Leone and the Investment protocol of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The session will conclude with presentations on UNCTAD’s investment policy tools developed to assist countries modernizing and reforming their IIAs; and will provide recommendations on the way forward and on the development of a new model BIT for Sierra Leone.
