DESCRIPTION:The The Russian Competition Day will take place in Saint-Peters
 burg from 6-11 September 2014.As part of this 3-day event\, the Federal An
 timonopoly Service (FAS) will hold a special session to celebrate UNCTAD&#
 039\;s 50th Anniversary and to explore ways to strengthen cooperation betw
 een Russia and UNCTAD. The Russian Competition Day represents a unique op
 portunity for UNCTAD to strengthen the fruitful cooperation with FAS and t
 o follow-up on the developments that have taken place since the Intergover
 nmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy (IGE) in July 2014.
  At the IGE 2014\, UNCTAD and FAS held a bilateral meeting where FAS reque
 sted UNCTAD to create:A Sectoral Databases in the framework of the Interna
 tional Working Groups\, co-chaired by the FAS RussiaA Regional Database on
  Information Exchange between Competition Authorities of CIS countriesIn t
 his context\, negotiations are underway between the FAS Russia and UNCTAD 
 to sign a Memorandum of Understanding in the Sphere of Competition Policy.
 The Russian Competition Day&quot\; will provide a platform to discuss curr
 ent issues on competition and to share experiences in implementation of no
 vel approaches to competition policy\, practices and enforcement. UNCTAD w
 ill participate in two events on 8 September:11:00-13:00 hrs. - Roundtable
 : Russia-UNCTAD: enhancing cooperation14.30-17.00 hrs. - Plenary Session: 
 Modern Aspects of Competition PolicyDuring the Plenary Session\, UNCTAD wi
 ll deliver a presentation on Independence and Accountability of Competitio
 n Agencies\, as well as formally present a Demo version of the UNCTAD Data
 base on Competition cases\, which will serve the basis for the creation of
  a &quot\;sectoral Database&quot\; that will be used for the International
  Working Group co-chaired by FAS Russia. The event will bring together rep
 resentatives of the Federal State Authorities of the Russian Federation an
 d regional authorities\, including the Central and Regional Offices of the
  FAS Russia\, legal and business practitioners\, high-ranking officials fr
 om foreign Competition Authorities and International Organisations such as
  OECD and UNCTAD. UNCTAD will share its current work of Competition\, in p
 articular: A presentation of the UNCTAD Secretariat Report on Independence
  and Accountability of Competition AgenciesA presentation of the COMPAL GL
 OBAL ProgrammeA presentation of the UNCTAD Database on Competition Cases\,
  with the possibility to include a &quot\;DEMO&quot\; in Russian languageF
 inalisation of a draft text for a MOU between UNCTAD and Russia on Coopera
 tion and mutual assistance&lt\;table width=&quot\;90%&quot\; align=&quot\;
