DESCRIPTION:The conference  &quot\;Bioenergy and Development: the Investme
 nt Case for Sustainable Production Systems&quot\;\, took place in Berlin o
 n 19 and 20 October 2015.UNCTAD gathered with a number of organizations wo
 rking on the responsible development of bioenergy policy to discuss possib
 le investment channels in bioenergy and corresponding governance intervent
 ions to sustainably meet growing energy needs while contributing to achiev
 ing the targets of the post-2015 development agenda.The conference marked 
 a ressurgence in the bioenergy debate - now much energized by recent devel
 opments in 2nd generation biofuels and biomaterial industries.Topics discu
 ssed included  food security\, poverty elimination and sustainable enviro
 nmental management. In particular\, by analysing relevant experiences and 
 providing scientific evidence on sustainable bioenergy production\, the co
 nference contributed  to global debates on the development of multilatera
 l environmental agreements (including COP21)\, as well as on the achieveme
 nt of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, in particular SDG 7: “ensur
 e access to affordable\, reliable\, sustainable\, and modern energy for al
 l”.This high-level conference was organized by the Institute for Advance
 d Sustainability Studies (IASS)\, and the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF
 ).  It was supported by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture\, th
 e International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)\, GIZ and the Ger
