DESCRIPTION:We live in a time of rapid technological change\, in which we a
 lready see how digital technologies are transforming the economy and socie
 ties and we grasp the potential of the full deployment of even more powerf
 ul technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). We have seen many ex
 amples of how AI is being used to address the COVID-19 pandemic\, from tra
 cking the disease to helping to developing vaccines.\n\nHowever\, the depl
 oyment of these technologies and the transitions that they bring may creat
 e winners and losers. There are grave concerns about the impact on jobs an
 d inequality. There is also concerns that the uneven technological capacit
 ies in AI would increase the technological and economic gaps between devel
 oped and developing countries. Another major concern nowadays are related 
 to the biased design and unintended consequences of AI\, which can arise i
 n several such as because they employ biased algorithms or they use biased
  data for training.\n\nThe objective of the side event is to discuss the f
 ormulation and implementation of national strategies for promoting the dep
 loyment of AI in productive sectors and the development of AI capabilities
  for inclusive and sustainable development. The side event will seek to ad
 dress the following questions:\n\n\nHow governments have approached the fo
 rmulation of their national AI Strategies?\nHow these strategies have prom
 oted the development of capabilities in AI?\nHow they seek to ensure that 
 AI does not increase inequalities?\nWhat are the governance mechanisms ado
 pted to implement the AI strategy?\nWhat is the role of international coop
