Second edition of the online course on Non-Tariff Measures

The second online training course on Non-Tariff Measures’ Collection and Classification will be held from 1 June  to 19 July 19 2015.   85 participants from 55 countries have been selected from more than 240 applications.

UNCTAD coordinates the international effort to improve access and increase transparency of Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs).

For this purpose it trains experts globally to collect and classify information about these measures. Working with NTM data is a resource-intensive task and requires specific technical knowledge.

UNCTAD's Trade Information Section and Virtual Institute developed an online course to provide a comprehensive overview of the NTM classification and data collection approach.

The course is designed to equip policymakers, researchers and trade practitioners working with NTMs with the relevant knowledge and skills.

The first edition of the online course of 2014 received 455 applications from 99 countries. 80 participants were selected and 60 successfully graduated.

Upon completing the online training, participants shared their feedback:

This course will definitely be useful in providing information to our regional SMEs and in the breaking down of language of trade agreements (CARIFORUM-EU EPA).

Thank you once again for the opportunity UNCTAD. This course has given me a deep insight into non-tariff measures and this will enable me to meaningfully contribute to the development of my country through various platforms.

I immensely enjoyed the course. It has been thought provoking from the start until the end. It sort of changed my way of thinking in regards to the subject matter and above.

After taking the course, I will specifically use my knowledge on NTMs in my research on ASEAN economic community such as the Business Implications of NTMs in AEC 2015.

NTMs are policy measures, other than ordinary customs tariffs, that can potentially have an economic effect on international trade in goods, changing quantities traded, or prices or both.
