DESCRIPTION:The Third International Conference on Small Island Developing S
 tates (SIDS)\, to be held in Samoa from 1 to 4 September 2014 (Samoa Confe
 rence) and the designation of 2014 as the International Year of SIDS offer
  an opportunity to focus international attention on the unique transport-r
 elated challenges facing SIDS and consider ways in which these can be bett
 er understood and adequately addressed.\n\nAgainst this background\, and i
 n line with the UNCTAD mandate\, including in particular the Doha Mandate\
 , which directs UNCTAD to &quot\;advise SIDS on the design and implementat
 ion of policies addressing their specific trade and trade logistics challe
 nges linked to their remoteness and geographical isolation&quot\; (para. 5
 6(j))\, the Ad Hoc Expert Meeting will provide a platform for expert discu
 ssions on transport-related challenges facing SIDS and on how best to addr
 ess these challenges. The main outcomes of the meeting and insight gained 
 will help inform an UNCTAD report on the subject that is currently in prep
 aration ahead of the Samoa Conference.\n\nRelevant issues to be considered
  include\, inter alia\, the following:\n\n\n\nTransport and trade logistic
 s challenges in SIDS: Current state of play\n\n\nSectoral interlinkages be
 tween transport and trade as well as other key economic sectors of relevan
 ce to SIDS\, in particular\, tourism and fisheries\n\n\nClimate change imp
 acts on transport infrastructure in SIDS and adaptation needs\n\n\nFinanci
 ng as a cross-cutting enabling factor\n\n\nPriority action areas and effec
 tive response measures\n\n\nThe role of partnerships\, relevant partners a
 nd collaboration mechanisms\n\n\n\nAs appropriate\, experts may wish to ma
 ke suggestions for each session topic on the way forward and identify some
  concrete actionable recommendations ahead of the Samoa Conference and reg
 arding the post-2015 development agenda.\n&lt\;p&gt\;The Third Internation
