This will allow key governments and co mpanies to take advantage of policy options and strategies available for l everaging BioTrade sectors in support of sustainable development\, with a particular focus on biodiversity\, and poverty reduction.\n\nThe post-2015 development agenda "\;Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sus tainable Development"\;\, including the 17 Sustainable Development Goa ls (SDGs) were adopted during the UN Sustainable Development Summit from 2 5-27 September 2015 in New York.\n\nThis agenda sets the path for governme nts\, UN agencies\, civil society\, and businesses to work together to end poverty\, promote prosperity and people’s well-being while protecting t he environment from 2016 to 2030. The new agenda raises challenges that sh ould be addressed and opportunities that can be seized.\n\nImplementation of the new agenda requires a major effort in moving from decisions to acti ons. In this regard\, UNCTAD will organize\, on 25 November 2015\, a brief ing on "\;Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals: Trade in bio diversity-based goods and services"\;.\n\n\n\nThe briefing will provid e Geneva-based trade representatives and other participants with increased understanding on the opportunities and challenges that would emerge from the SDGs in relation to trade\, biodiversity and livelihoods development\, focusing on SDGs 1\, 2\, 12\, 15 and 17. It will demonstrate concretely h ow trade and biodiversity programmes\, such as BioTrade\, can be leveraged to help countries and organizations realize these goals.\n\n\nThe 2030 Ag enda seeks to bring about transformations that benefit the people and the planet\, and that enhance partnerships. In this regard\, the briefing will also provide practical cases\, such as those related to the BioTrade Init iative and others led by private stakeholders\, that contribute to biodive rsity sustainability and sustainable use and that can help achieve the SDG s. Several short and focused presentations will be made by speakers\, foll owed by discussion among participants.\n\nUNCTAD'\;s BioTrade Initiati ve is a practical programme that can make a concrete contribution to susta inable development. During the briefing\, the third phase of the BioTrade Facilitation Programme (BTFP III) will be launched.
