SUMMARY:Expert Meeting on the Ways and Means of Improving the Implementatio
 n of Priority Areas Agreed in the Istanbul Programme of Action

DESCRIPTION: \n\nProductive capacities and doubling the share of the least
  developed countries in world exports\n\n \n\nThe objective of the meetin
 g is to seek ways and means of improving the implementation of the Istanbu
 l Programme of Action\, with a view to fostering productive capacities\, s
 tructural transformation and the diversification of exports in the least d
 eveloped countries.\n\nThe meeting will also examine the respective roles 
 of Governments and the private sector in building productive capacities an
 d accelerating transformative development in the least developed countries
 \, through discussions and exchanges of views on the role of the developme
 nt and trade partners of the least developed countries\, as well as on int
 ernational trade in building productive capacities.\n\nUNCTAD provides sub
 stantive analysis on the need to build productive capacities in the least 
 developed countries\, which has led to growing recognition that doing so i
 s a key requirement for these countries to achieve sustainable economic gr
 owth and development under the Sustainable Development Goals.\n\nThe chall
 enge is how to operationalize the analytical framework developed by UNCTAD
  in specific national circumstances. In this regard\, the meeting will bui
 ld on earlier work of the secretariat and will contribute to efforts to bu
 ild consensus on ways and means of accelerating the building of productive
  capacities in the least developed countries.\n\nPanel discussions and pre
 sentations at the meeting will be structured in four sessions involving di
 scussions and exchanges of views on the following:\n\n\n\nProgress in the 
 implementation and achievement of the goals of the Istanbul Programme of A
 ction\n\n\nHow to strengthen productive capacities in the least developed 
 countries\n\n\nMobilizing financial resources for productive capacity deve
 lopment in the least developed countries\n\n\nWays and means to double the
  share of the least developed countries in global exports while enhancing 
 their benefits from global trade\n\n\n\nContributions from Experts\n\nExpe
 rts are requested to advise of their intention to submit papers and contri
 butions to the UNCTAD secretariat by 15 September 2017.\n\nWritten papers 
 and contributions must be submitted to the secretariat by Friday\, 29 Sept
 ember.\n&lt\;p&gt\;&amp\;nbsp\;&lt\;/p&gt\;\n\n&lt\;p&gt\;&lt\;strong&gt\;
