DESCRIPTION:ObjectiveThe first Stakeholders Steering Committee (SSC) aims
  to bring together BioTrade partners under a common platform to promote co
 llaboration\, further coordinate actions and enhance its knowledge and und
 erstanding of the linkages between BioTrade\, the Sustainable Development 
 Goals (SDGs) and the Aichi Targets. Partners will enrich the discussions b
 y sharing their expertise\, experiences\, and lessons learned from their B
 ioTrade-related activities.BackgroundThe programme UNCTAD BioTrade Initiat
 ive - Linking trade\, biodiversity and sustainable development was launche
 d in March 2018 with the financial support of the Swiss State Secretariat 
 for Economic Affairs SECO. The 4-year programme will be implemented by UNC
 TAD by steering\, managing and actively collaborating with partners and ot
 her stakeholders. Programme activities aim to contribute to achieving the 
 SDGs\, particularly SDGs 15 and 17\, as well as the Aichi Targets.The SSC
  will take place on 17 May 2018 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. It wi
 ll bring together partners implementing BioTrade at the national\, regiona
 l and international levels. During the meeting\, the members will collabor
 atively define\, discuss\, agree\, and adopt a four-year work plan\, known
  as the Roadmap. They will also identify emerging areas for future partner
 ships. Similarly\, the Roadmap will compile additional activities implemen
 ted by other BioTrade stakeholders\, aiming to identify future partnership
 s and collaboration.Programme partners include: CITES Secretariat\, Develo
 pment Bank for Latin America (CAF)\, Forum for Law\, Environment\, Develop
 ment and Governance (FLEDGE)\, GIZ ABS Initiative\, Helvetas Swiss Interco
 operation\, International Trade Centre (UNCTAD/WTO)\, PhytoTrade Africa Ne
 twork\, Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO)\, Union for Ethical BioTr
 ade (UEBT)\, and national BioTrade programmes.BioTrade refers to those act
 ivities of collection\, production\, transformation\, and commercializatio
 n of goods and services derived from native biodiversity under the criteri
 a of environmental\, social and economic sustainability. Since its launch 
 in 1996 by UNCTAD\, the BioTrade Initiative promotes sustainable trade in 
 support of the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity\, Conv
 ention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flor
 a (CITES) as well as other multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) an
