SUMMARY:Webinar on Lessons from implementing BioTrade Principles and Criter
 ia in Latin America
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION: Objective of the webinar:To share inputs on lessons learned an
d experiences from BioTrade national and regional programme partners in La
tin America in implementing the Principles and Criteria (P&amp\;C)To incor
porate these lessons learned and experiences into the revision of the BioT
rade CriteriaBackgroundSince 2007\, BioTrade partners and practitioners ha
ve been implementing BioTrade Principles and Criteria (P&amp\;C) in a vari
ety of biodiversity sectors that use plants\, animals or ecosystem service
s (e.g sustainable tourism) across 46 countries. To achieve continuous imp
rovement\, it is important to capture these valuable experiences and to ha
ve them guide the P&amp\;C revision process.UNCTAD is leading this revisio
n process and is coordinating with partners to receive inputs from differe
nt practitioners and experts from May 2018 to February 2019. This revision
process will also incorporate relevant aspects of more recent internation
al agreements/agendas (e.g. Nagoya Protocol\, SDGs) as well as factors rel
ated to the growing consumer demand for biodiversity friendly products and
services. On 14 August 2018\, UNCTAD is organizing a focused webinar on Le
ssons learned from implementing BioTrade Criteria with BioTrade national a
nd regional programme partners in Latin America. This webinar will provide
the opportunity for review and discussion of the practical experience fro
m BioTrade focal points and programme partners from the region. The updated
BioTrade P&amp\;C will then be uploaded into ITC´s Standards Map\, enabl
ing benchmarking of BioTrade P&amp\;C with other sustainability frameworks
as well as providing SMEs with the ability to carry out company self-asse
ssments. This online tool will also enhance the understanding of BioTrade\
, but also promote partners and the capacity-building tools developed.Thes
e activities are developed by UNCTAD with the support of the Swiss State S
ecretariat for Economic Affairs SECO under the Global BioTrade Programme:
Linking trade\, biodiversity and sustainable development (April 2018–Mar
 ch 2022)./project/global-biotrade-facilitation-programme-linking-trade-bio
