Port efficiency therefore has a direct impact on a cou ntry’s ability to participate in international trade.\n\nUNCTAD assists ports in developing countries by conducting research\, carrying out techni cal assistance activities and providing training and capacity-building thr ough the TrainForTrade programme\, a key component of which is the case st udies that participants conduct on a specific problem faced by their port. \n\nThe process requires that the participants put into practice what they have learned from the port management course and allows them to immediate ly contribute to improving operations in their ports.\n\nThis edition of t he series presents fifteen case studies done by programme participants fro m ports in Ghana\, Indonesia\, Malaysia\, Nigeria and the Philippines.
