SUMMARY:P166 Short Course: Maritime transport for sustainable development
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Key insights and projections from the UNCTAD Review of Maritime
Transport\n\nMaritime transport is the backbone of international trade an
d the global economy. Over 80% of the volume of international trade in goo
ds is carried by sea\, and the percentage is even higher for most developi
ng countries.\n\nThe Review of Maritime Transport is an UNCTAD flagship re
port\, published annually since 1968. It provides an analysis of structura
 l and cyclical changes affecting seaborne trade\, ports\, and shipping\, a
s well as an extensive collection of statistics from maritime trade and tr
ansport.\n\nThe latest edition of the report has a special focus on the CO
VID-19 pandemic&#039\;s impact on the industry and includes a special chap
ter on the challenges seafarers face in view of the crewing crisis.\n\nThe
course will update delegates on key developments in seaborne trade\, mari
time and port business\, freight rates\, key performance indicators\, seaf
arers’ concerns\, and the necessary legal and regulatory framework to fa
cilitate international maritime trade and transport.\n\nDelegates will lea
rn about policy option to keep ships moving\, ports open\, and trade flowi
ng in times of pandemic\, and when confronted with the future challenge of
the decarbonization of maritime transport.\n&lt\;h3 class=&quot\;text-ali
