SUMMARY:National consultative workshop for Seychelles stakeholders on the U
NCTAD technology assessment project on energy and agriculture
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)
has a project promoting technology assessment in the energy and agricultu
ral sectors in Africa to accelerate progress in science\, technology and i
nnovation.\n\nThe Department of Science Technology and Innovation (DSTI) o
f the Ministry of Investment\, Entrepreneurship and Industry cordially inv
ites national stakeholders to participate in a two-day workshop to prepare
for Seychelles&#039\; participation in the UNCTAD project.\n\nTechnology
assessment (TA) is gaining currency among academics\, technocrats and poli

ment\, development\, introduction\, and governance of new technologies. It
entails critical and participatory evaluation of the social\, economic an
d environmental benefits and risks of a particular technology. While TA is
still in its infancy in Africa\, there have been various TA-like initiati
ves in the health\, energy\, water and agriculture sectors\, and some rela
ted to biotechnology and nanotechnology.\n\nThe UNCTAD project will seek t
o strengthen the capacities of science\, technology and innovation policym
akers and other stakeholders in sub-Saharan Africa\, and propose policies
and mechanisms to support the learning\, diffusion and adoption of technol
ogies in the energy and agricultural sectors. This is particularly importa
nt to build resilience and facilitate recovery in the context of the COVID
-19 pandemic.\n\nThe objectives of the workshop are as follows:\n\n\nTo un
derstand better the concept of TA and the methodology to be used in the pr
oject\;\nTo identify gaps in TA\, especially in Agriculture/Fisheries and
Energy\;\nTo determine the priority areas for TA to be investigated under
the project\, in either Energy or Agriculture/Fisheries\, for the Seychell
es\;\nTo develop a work plan for the Seychelles&#039\; participation in th
e UNCTAD project.\n\n\nThe workshop is open to Seychelles stakeholders.\n\
