In addition\, a special transition period — currently running to 1 January 2033 — has been gr anted to the pharmaceutical industry\, which exempts LDCs from protecting patents and undisclosed information for pharmaceutical products. It also e nables manufacturers of pharmaceuticals in LDCs to export patented product s to other countries where the existing patent has expired or is absent. M oreover\, manufacturers of generics in LDCs are exempted from paying royal ties for patented medicines.\n\nHowever\, LDCs lose access to these manifo ld benefits when they exit the category. Graduating LDCs are no longer eli gible for TRIPS waivers and flexibilities and must implement all substanti ve provisions of the Agreement. They are also required to introduce provis ions for patents to pharmaceutical products and processes. For LDCs with p harmaceutical industries\, this may negatively affect their ability to pro duce and import generic versions of patented medicines.\n\nThe loss of the se benefits can pose significant challenges for LDCs after graduating\, wh ile also potentially exposing major gaps in their awareness of post-gradua tion IPR requirements and their capacity to implement them.\n\nThis worksh op will take stock of the current IPR landscape for LDCs\, highlight persi stent\, new and emerging IPR-related challenges confronting these countrie s\, unpack IPR-related compliance obligations and flexibilities for gradua ting LDCs\, and identify strategies and special support measures to help u nlock IPR-related benefits and opportunities.\n<\;h3 class="\;text-a lign-center\n\nView meeting on unctad.org\nhttps://unctad.org/meeting/work shop-understanding-ipr-related-landscape-graduating-least-developed-countr ies-issues DTSTAMP:20260825T192357Z END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
