SUMMARY:Kick-off meeting of the National Action Plan for Sustainability and
  SDG Reporting in Kenya

DESCRIPTION:On 20 May 2022 UNCTAD organized an online meeting to present th
 e National Action Plan for Kenya towards developing high-quality sustainab
 ility/SDG reporting by companies. The Action Plan is one of the key output
 s of the Development Account 11th Tranche Project on Enabling policy frame
 works for enterprise sustainability and SDG reporting in Africa and Latin 
 America. \n\nThe action plan provided recommendations and proposed activi
 ties to overcome the gaps in priority areas identified with the previous a
 ssessment of the reporting infrastructure in the country. The meeting enco
 uraged participants to discuss and provide their views and suggestions on 
 the proposed plan of action. It has also paved the way to improve the sust
 ainability/SDG reporting in Kenya and enhance the quality of corporate rep
 orting\, including on environmental\, social and corporate governance aspe
 cts. \n\nThe gaps identified through the ADT assessment have been grouped
  into 3 categories:\n-    Lack of legal &amp\; regulatory framework on 
 enterprise reporting \n-    Lack of institutional coordination between
  relevant stakeholders in the area of sustainability reporting \n-    
 Limitation on Human Capacity Building lack of regulation in educational re
 quirements in enterprise reporting\n\nThe action plan addressed the establ
 ished categories accordingly by taking into consideration the country-spec
 ific constraints and available market opportunities.\nThe 3 strategic obje
 ctives identified in the action plan are highlighted below:\n-    Strat
 egic Objective 1: Strengthen the legal and regulatory frameworks for susta
 inability reporting \n-    Strategic Objective 2: Strengthen regulator
 y infrastructure and institutional cooperation in the area of SDG/Sustaina
 bility reporting\n-    Strategic Objective 3: Strengthen the human capa
 bilities for corporate and sustainability reporting\n \nThe meeting helpe
 d to agree on the composition of the working group\, define the roles and 
 responsibilities of the group members\, proceed with the election of a cha
 ir and secretariat\, develop a meeting calendar for each group as well as 
 determine the activities which should commence in 2H of 2022 and prioritis
