DESCRIPTION:On November 16\, 2022\, panelists and member States&#039\; dele
 gates discussed the topic &quot\;Leveraging new technologies’ impact thr
 ough technology assessments.&quot\; The session opened with a series of in
 sightful presentations that illustrated the catalyst role of technology in
  the achievement of the SDGs. They also heard about the progress made by c
 ountries participating in UNCTAD’s technology assessment (TA) project. T
 he ensuing interactive discussion yielded some important conclusions:\n\n\
 nMember States expressed their appreciation for UNCTAD’s technical coope
 ration in TA\;\nTA was recognized as a key element of policymakers’ tool
 kit to help adopt frontier technologies in developing countries in a susta
 inable and respectful manner\;\nDeveloping countries face an array of chal
 lenges in carrying out TAs\, including a dearth of human capital and techn
 ical skills. There is a clear need for sustained capacity building and fin
 ancing from the international community and multilateral organizations\;\n
 TA should be approached as a global\, multilateral effort to ensure that t
 his tool can effectively produce sound policies and avoid potential negati
 ve effects on developing countries when technologies are assessed without 
 considering their potential effects on the economies and societies of deve
 loping countries.\n\n&lt\;p&gt\;On November 16\, 2022\, panelists and memb
