DESCRIPTION:2022 marks 50 years since the Third Session of the United Natio
 ns Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD III) was held in Santiago\,
  Chile\, attended by representatives of 131 states.\n\nAccording to the re
 port of UNCTAD III\, the objectives included &quot\;accelerating the econo
 mic development of all countries by formulating and implementing new devel
 opment-oriented trade policies through the combined efforts of the entire 
 international community&quot\;.\n\nOther issues included: reforms of the m
 onetary and trading systems\; the indebtedness of developing countries\; t
 he free use of natural resources\; and the need for the developing world t
 o have access to modern science and technology.\n\nMany of these issues re
 main valid today\, coupled with other major challenges facing developing c
 ountries in their efforts to achieve sustainable development\, including c
 limate change\, food insecurity\, and growing geopolitical tensions.\n\nIn
  this context\, the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG
 s) are emerging as a generally accepted roadmap.\n\nThe Mission of Chile\,
  in conjunction with the UNCTAD Secretariat\, will hold this commemorative
  event during the 13th session of the Trade and Development Commission\, t
 o mark the 50th anniversary of UNCTAD III.\n\nThe objectives of the event 
 are to reiterate Chile&#039\;s commitment to trade and development\; to co
 ntribute to give visibility to UNCTAD&#039\;s role in support of developin
 g countries\; and to provide an opportunity to reflect on the main trade a
 nd development challenges identified then and today.\n\nProgramme \n\n\nAm
