DESCRIPTION:The Republic of Gabon volunteered to undertake UNCTAD’s Volun
 tary Peer Review on Consumer Protection Law and Policy. \n\nThese reviews
  provide an external and independent assessment of the effectiveness of co
 nsumer protection law and policy\; identify the challenges to be addressed
  and areas to be improved in the legal and institutional frameworks\, ther
 eby contributing to enhancing quality\, efficiency and consumer protection
  regimes\; assess the consumer protection awareness of relevant stakeholde
 rs and their contributions in this area\; formulate and recommend appropri
 ate measures\, designed in consideration of the economic and developmental
  particularities of each country\, to address these challenges\; and assis
 t countries in implementing the recommendations by developing a capacity-b
 uilding project in consultation with the country concerned.\n\nGabon will 
 officially launch its review in a public event on 1 December 2022 in the A
 RAMBO Auditorium in Libreville. The event will gather government official
 s\, industry representatives\, consumer groups and academia to raise aware
 ness about this exercise among all interested stakeholders and encourage t
 he improvement of national policies and enforcement mechanism.\n\nGabon’
 s review will also encompass a series of interviews in Libreville from 26 
 November to 2 December to collect information on the legal and institution
 al frameworks in the country. A background report will follow.\n\nThe Peer
  Review will be held at the seventh session of the Intergovernmental Group
  of Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy on 3 and 4 July 2023.\n\
