SUMMARY:Webinar on development of PPP dry ports\, key features and challeng
es\, showcased with examples from Angola\, Egypt and India
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:With over 80 per cent of the volume and 70 per cent of the valu
e of world merchandise trade carried by seaports\, seaports are key nodes
in the global network of interconnected supply chains and economic interde
pendency that also serve as catalysts of economic growth and development.\
n\nThe development of one or more dry ports can be a way to further improv
e the logistics and supply chain efficiency of a country by reducing conge
stion at the seaports and improving the reliability of cargo transport bet
ween the dry port and shipper/importer\, given the dry port facility’s p
otential proximity to the final market.\n\nOne mechanism that has supporte
d the development of ports and logistics are Public-Private Partnerships (
PPPs). Ports and terminals benefit from the participation of private port
operators\, not only in terms of capital contribution\, but also in relati
on to the transfer of expertise and technologies. \n\nIn co-operation wit
h UNCTAD\, the World Association of PPP Units &amp\; Professionals (WAPPP)
will organise an online roundtable to discuss the development of PPPs for
dry ports and aims to cover the following areas among others:\n\n\nDiscus
s the concept of dry ports and important commercial elements in dry port d
evelopment.\nOutline project specific challenges in the design and deliver
y of PPPs for dry ports.\nProvide examples of key commercial and financial
risks\, and other risks.\nPresentation of dry port projects and programs
from Angola\, Egypt\, and India.\nDiscuss the role of different players in
cluding government\, private sector\, development banks and international
organizations in dry port development and PPPs.\n\n\nModerator:\n\n\nFrida
Youssef\, Chief of the Transport Section\, Trade Logistics Branch\, DTL\,
  UNCTAD\n\n\nPanelists:\n\n\nCatarino Pereira\, Chairman\, Angolan Cargo &
