SUMMARY:Module 6 on Digital Trade Agreement for the TrainForTrade blended l
earning course on digital identity for trade and development for small isl
 and developing states
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Digital technologies and their application in international tra
de practices have the potential to greatly contribute to the achievement o
f the Sustainable Development Goals. For small island developing States (S
IDS)\, information and communications technology (ICT) and electronic comm
erce (e-commerce) have immense potential for supporting the participation
of SIDS in international and regional markets\, building resilience and re
covering better from disasters. Despite its importance\, the digital econo
my in SIDS is still in an early stage of development. The common challenge
s in the digital transformation of SIDS include not only access to afforda
ble digital infrastructure\, but also the lack of adequate legal framework
s and digital identity system which can facilitate the take-up of e-commer
ce and the transition to a digital economy. Furthermore\, the lack of offi
cial national statistics on ICT use and e- commerce constitutes a handicap
for the formulation and evaluation of digital development policies. The c
oronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has reinforced pre-existing bottlen
ecks in the e-commerce ecosystem of SIDS.\n\nThis project will contribute
to strengthening the capacities of SIDS in Africa\, the Caribbean and Asia
and the Pacific to adopt trade policies that foster digital economy devel
opment and enhance crisis responsiveness. Specifically\, it aims at streng
thening the capacities of SIDS on key aspects of the digital economy throu
gh the development of skills\, knowledge with innovative development appro
aches based on a recognized blended learning method and state-of-the-art t
echnological solutions.\n\nObjectives\n\nThe objective of the course is to
identify and draft policies on digital identity related to trade and deve
lopment. It includes defining:\n\n\nThe limits of data protection and digi
tal identity\nThe scope of digital identity governance\nThe risks and solu
tions related to digital\n\n\nProgramme outline\n\nEach course module incl
udes interactive assessments and links to communication tools for online i
nteraction. Every module consists of video presentations\, a participant m
anual\, a forum\, tests and case studies. Participants should spend betwee
n 4 to 5 hours per week to study the material and participate in the forum
 s.\n\nThe 6 distance-learning modules are:\n\n\nFundamental Concepts of Di
 gital Identity\nData Protection\nDigital Identity Usage\nGovernance\nDigit
al Identity Technology Solutions and Risks\nDigital Trade Agreement\n\n\nT
he course will be conducted in TRAINFORTRADE&#039\;s distance learning pl

Participants should spend betwee
n 4 to 5 hours per week to study the material and participate in the forum
 s.\n\nThe 6 distance-learning modules are:\n\n\nFundamental Concepts of Di
 gital Identity\nData Protection\nDigital Identity Usage\nGovernance\nDigit
al Identity Technology Solutions and Risks\nDigital Trade Agreement\n\n\nT
he course will be conducted in TRAINFORTRADE&#039\;s distance learning pl
atform. In the platform\, participants will have access to manuals\, multi
media presentations\, module exams\, opinion surveys and forums created fo
r each module for discussions with the instructor and other participants.\
n\nA 90-minute follow-up webinar will be organized at the end of the cours
 e. The topic will be defined during the assessment of the online sessions.
