SUMMARY:Webinar on best practices and experiences on consumer protection an
 d gender
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:The pandemic caused by the new coronavirus (2020) evidenced vul
nerabilities in health\, in access to products and services\, and in terms
of gender and consumers. Considering that the definition of &quot\;consum
er&quot\; includes three relevant aspects: the disparity of technical know
ledge\, the discrepancy of economic power and the disparity of legal capac
ity it is possible to identify the difficulties faced by women as consumer
 s. In other words\, women as consumers\, in addition to gender-related pro
blems and challenges such as access to education and information\, can als
o be considered vulnerable as consumers\; or hyper-vulnerable due to diffi
culties in accessing information\, education and dispute resolution.\n\nIn
addition to the impact of international trade on national economic polici
es\, women as consumers are doubly impaired because they do not know or do
not know how to claim their rights as consumers. Such a situation increas
es the inequality of rights between men and women\, creating a vicious cir
cle. Considering that the path to include gender in consumer protection po
licies remain a challenge\, this webinar aims to discuss best practices an
d paths for improvement.\n\nThis event is organized within the framework o
f UNCTAD’s Working Group on Consumer Protection and Gender. \n\n\nNote:
This event is only open to Government participants of  UNCTAD’s Workin
g Group on Consumer Protection and Gender. Interpretation will not be prov
ided for this meeting. \n&lt\;p&gt\;The pandemic caused by the new corona
