Over the past 25 years the Port Management Programme has trained about 10’000 port managers across Africa\, Asia\, Europe\, Latin America and the Carib bean in three language-based networks (English\, French and Spanish).\n\nI n the framework of the UNCTAD TrainForTrade Port Management Programme\, a Training of Trainers Workshop for the English-speaking network will be hel d from 17-24 April 2024 in Cork\, Ireland. The workshop is co-organized by the Port of Cork Company and hosted with the kind support of Irish Aid.\n \nDates and working language\n\nIn the framework of UNCTAD'\;s English -speaking Network of ports\, Modules 5 to 8 of the "\;Modern Port Mana gement"\; course will be delivered in English\, in 2 steps:\n\n1st p art: e-Learning (learn.unctad.org)\n\nThe first part of the training is a mandatory distance learning session from 25 February to 5 April 2024\, c overing the content of modules 5 to 8. Candidates will complete the tests during the online sessions in order to qualify for the final certification .\n\nCompleting the modules individually and in advance in this blended-le arning format ensures thorough knowledge sharing\, leaving room for dynami c in person interactions during the gathering in Cork.\n\n2nd part: Face -to-face workshop in Cork\n\nThe face-to-face session for modules 5 to 8 w ill be hosted by the Port of Cork Company from 17–24 April 2024. Durin g the face-to-face workshop\, participants will contribute to the deliveri es of the modules alongside experts from the network’s port partners and UNCTAD. Group exercises will also be conducted to stimulate knowledge sha ring between the participants. During the same period\, a technical port v isit and the coordination meeting of the Network will be held. The Port En deavor Game will also be played by participants with the support of the In ternational Association of Ports and Harbors as part of the training and c apacity building programme.\n\nObjectives\n\nThe two main objectives are:\ n\n\nTo train senior and executive managers from port communities with the knowledge and skills to deliver the "\;Modern Port Management"\; course of UNCTAD’s Port Management Programme.\nAt the end of the worksho p\, the participants will be able to:\n\nAssess the current and future rol e of a commercial port\nDefine the port users’ requirements\nMaster the daily tasks of port management\nContribute to the improvement of port effi ciency\nDescribe the role and functions of an innovative port that integra tes the future needs of port communities\n\n\nTo develop a framework for t he replication of the training in the port communities of beneficiary coun tries.\nAt the end of this workshop\, the senior manager will have the ski lls and knowledge to serve as trainers in their own countries\; they will be able to use the pedagogical material of the UNCTAD Port Management Prog ramme to replicate the training at the national level for the benefit of m iddle managers from their own port community.\n\n\nThe sessions will be pr esented by the participants from the Network and the port partners around the 4 main modules:\n\n\nMethods and Tools of Port Management\nEconomic an d Commercial Management\nAdministrative and Legal Management\nTechnical Ma nagement and Human Resources Development\n\n\nSide events\n\nTechnical vis it of the Port of Cork\n\nA dedicated technical visit of the port faciliti es of the Port of Cork will be organised members of the port network\, pro viding a comprehensive view of the latest developments in Cork and its imp ortance to its local economy.\n\nPort Endeavor Game\n\nAt the end of the w orkshop\, the Port Endeavor game will be played by the participants with t he moderation by the TrainForTrade team and representatives of the Interna tional Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH). This dedicated session on UN Sustainable Development Goals in ports is a cheerful and interactive wa y to complete the week of training.\n\nCoordination Meeting of the Port Ma nagement Programme\n\nThe final day of the face-to-face workshop will host the 2024 coordination meeting relating to the technical assistance provid ed within the framework of the Port Management Programme. This annual meet ing allows members of the UNCTAD English-speaking Network the opportunity to exchange good practices and lessons learned\, fine-tuning the existing road maps/action plans. \n\nAttendees\n\nUNCTAD will select around 25 del egates from the registrations received from invited ports.\n\nDelegates wi ll be invited to present specific segments related to their expertise with in the thematic of modules 5 to 8 of the Modern Port Management course. Th ey will prepare PowerPoint presentations and contribute directly to the de livery of the face-to-face schedule workshop.\n\nTarget group: Senior Ma nagers (of departments related to port activities – commercial\, technic al\, administrative\, economic\, customs\, etc.) with a solid academic bac kground and sound experience in the port community. Competence in the Engl ish language and familiarity with Internet and digital tools are required. \n\nSenior managers from the current\, former and prospective member ports of the English-speaking network of the Programme (including from Ghana\, Indonesia\, Maldives\, Nigeria\, Philippines and Serbia) will come togethe r to exchange experiences and knowledge on the contents delivered within m odules 5-8 of the course on Modern Port Management.\n\nIn addition to port managers and national instructors\, the event is pleased to be welcoming several CEOs and port authority officials of member ports to the workshop.  \n<\;p>\;The UNCTAD TrainForTrade Port Management Programme support s port communities in developing countries in delivering more efficient an d competitive port management services. In order to increase trade flows a nd foster economic development\, the programme creates port networks bring ing together public\, private and international entities.
