DESCRIPTION:An invitation only eventBackgroundThe UN Trade and Development 
 (UNCTAD) together with The Shridath Ramphal Centre for International Trade
  Law\, Policy\, and Services (SRC) of the UWI is organizing a consultation
  on the integration of ocean economy measures in the Nationally Determined
  Contributions (NDCs) of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) under the P
 aris Agreement. This event aims to further the understanding of how SIDS a
 re mainstreaming ocean economy strategies to combat the adverse effects an
 d capitalize on opportunities presented by climate change. This event will
  take place in the margins of the Global Supply Chain Forum being held in 
 Barbados as a preparatory activity for the SIDS-4 Conference on the 27-30 
 May 2024 to be held in Antigua and Barbuda.As outlined by the latest findi
 ngs from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other re
 putable sources\, SIDS face disproportionate impacts from climate change\,
  including sea-level rise\, increased frequency of extreme weather events\
 , and ocean acidification. These challenges underscore the necessity for t
 ailored approaches to climate adaptation and mitigation\, which are critic
 al in shaping the resilience and sustainable development trajectories of S
 IDS.A draft technical note titled “A Deep Dive into Ocean Economy Measur
 es in the Nationally Determined Contributions of Small Island Developing S
 tates” prepared by UN Trade and Development and the SRC will be presente
 d to gather inputs and comments before its finalization. The draft note ex
 amines the balance between measures taken in NDCs for sustainable use and 
 conservation of ocean resources\, highlighting the significant role that h
 ealthy marine ecosystems play in the environmental and economic stability 
 of these States. The analysis reveals a dedicated effort by SIDS to integr
 ate ocean sustainability and conservation measures into their climate acti
 on strategies\, reflecting a strategic focus on maintaining economic vital
 ity while safeguarding environmental heritage.ObjectivePresent the finding
