SUMMARY:Advancing South-South Cooperation through Data

DESCRIPTION:South-South cooperation (SSC) is key to achieving the 2030 Agen
 da\, alongside other international development support\, but the only form
  of development cooperation lacking systematic data. Momentum to measure S
 SC is rapidly building following the endorsement of SDG indicator 17.3.1 i
 n March 2022 at the UN Statistical Commission and its historic agreement o
 n a UN Framework to Measure South-South Cooperation\, developed by the Sou
 th\, for the South.The UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD)\, UN Regional Com
 missions and partners\, building on global efforts of countries\, are stre
 ngthening developing countries’ capacities to measure financial and non-
 financial modalities of SSC to better inform and target policy action. A M
 anual for the Framework to measure South-South cooperation has been develo
 ped with pioneering countries and partners\, and first data have been repo
 rted.This event is being organized in the framework of the Global Network 
 of Data Officers and Statisticians. The UN Global Network of Data Officer
 s and Statisticians is a professional network connecting over 3\,300 data 
 officers\, statisticians\, data scientists\, and geospatial information ex
 perts worldwide. Our goal is to support governments in building resilient 
 and sustainable national data systems for SDG implementation through conne
 ction\, collaboration\, coordination\, and capacity development. This ses
 sion will bring together experts from UNCTAD\, as a custodian of the UN Fr
 amework\, the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (
 ECLAC)\, and the National Bureau of Statistics of Nigeria\, to explore how
  data can better inform\, support\, and scale SSC initiatives.This webinar
  will showcase innovative approaches and collaborative mechanisms to enabl
 e global reporting of South-South cooperation data:Bojan Nastav (UNCTAD) w
 ill present UNCTAD’s latest work on South-South cooperation data\, inclu
 ding the development of the UN Framework to enable comparable global data 
 and the Manual to guide countries\, as well as findings from the first dat
 a of pioneering countries.Rolando Ocampo (ECLAC) will share regional exper
 iences in compiling and harmonizing South-South cooperation statistics in 
 Latin America and the Caribbean.Anne Ibrahim (National Bureau of Statistic
 s\, Nigeria) will discuss national-level innovations in tracking and repor
 ting South-South cooperation flows and partnerships. Our speakers:Bojan N
 astav is the Chief of Statistical Analysis in UNCTAD\, leading work on Sou
 th-South cooperation data and development statistics. He has spearheaded i
 nitiatives to improve data availability and comparability across developin
 g countries on several SDG indicators\, including to enable tracking of il
 licit financial flows.Rolando Ocampo is the Director of Statistics Divisio
 n at ECLAC. He has over 35 years of experience in statistics and geospatia
 l information. He served as Vice President of INEGI in Mexico and chaired 
 UN-GGIM: Americas and UN-GGIM Global. Since 2019\, he has been the Directo
 r of the Statistics Division at ECLAC\, where he leads the regional statis
 tical agenda\, promoting innovative methodologies and partnerships to stre
 ngthen countries’ capacities to produce\, harmonize and use statistics f
 or sustainable development.Anne Ibrahim is the Assistant Director at Natio
 nal Bureau of Statistics. She is the Head of the International Action Plan
 s\, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and New Partnership for African D
 evelopment (NEPAD) division. With a rich experience spanning over 20 years
  in statistical operations\, she has actively contributed to some reform\,
