DESCRIPTION:The Multi-year Expert Meeting on Commodities and Development ai
 ms to monitor developments\, challenges and opportunities in commodity mar
 kets\, giving due attention to those commodity sectors that are relevant t
 o commodity-dependent developing countries. Discussions serve to inform m
 ember States of important developments in key commodity sectors and market
 s from a development perspective.Commodity price volatility: implications 
 for trade and developmentThe expert meeting will focus on commodity price 
 volatility and its implications for trade and development\, in response to
  priorities expressed by member states. It will examine recent trends in p
 rice volatility across both agricultural and extractive commodities and as
 sess their economic\, social\, and trade impacts on developing countries.T
 he discussion will highlight the increasing vulnerability of commodity-dep
 endent economies to global shocks\, climate change\, and geopolitical disr
 uptions. Drawing on evidence and experiences from various countries\, the 
 meeting will identify practical short- and long-term policy options for ma
 naging and mitigating volatility for both exporters and importers. These o
 ptions may include domestic support measures\, financial and risk-manageme
 nt instruments\, value addition\, diversification strategies\, climate ada
 ptation\, and enhanced domestic and regional production.The meeting aims t
 o contribute to a forward-looking agenda that enhances resilience and supp
 orts inclusive and sustainable development in commodity-dependent economie
 s. The goal is to foster value addition\, economic diversification\, and b
 etter integration of developing countries into supply and value chains.Par
 ticipationThis session is open to all member States of UNCTAD. Other organ
 izations\, including specialized agencies\, intergovernmental bodies and n
 on-governmental organizations in the general and special categories\, as w
 ell as academia and the private sector\, may participate as observers.Regi
 strationOnline registration is mandatory for all those wishing to attend t
 he meeting and is required in order to be included in the list of particip
 ants.LogisticsThe session will be held in person  at the Palais des Natio
 ns. Those who cannot attend the meeting in person will be able to listen t
 o the live audio stream in the six official languages of the United Nation
 s. The link to listen live will be sent to registered participants\, at t
 he email address used for registration\, one day in advance of the start o
