SUMMARY:Global Supply Chain Forum 2026 session: Future-ready ports\, part I
  – energy transition and digital transformation
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Ports are critical nodes in global supply chains\, handling mor
e than 80 per cent of world merchandise trade by volume. Yet they are oper
ating in an increasingly complex environment shaped by geopolitical disrup
tions\, changing trade patterns\, climate pressures\, and rapid technologi
cal change. The Review of Maritime Transport 2025 highlights this changing
landscape and the need for ports to strengthen their resilience and adapt
to an evolving maritime environment.Against this backdrop\, preparing por
ts for the future requires rethinking how they operate\, use energy\, and
harness technology. The transition towards cleaner energy\, alongside the
growing use of digital technologies\, automation\, and artificial intellig
ence\, offers opportunities to improve efficiency\, reduce environmental i
mpacts and enable faster\, more informed decision-making.These transformat
ions\, however\, do not take place under the same conditions everywhere. P
orts differ significantly in their infrastructure\, resources\, capacities
\, skills\, and technological readiness. For ports in developing countries
in particular\, ensuring that these transitions are inclusive and adapted
to local realities will be essential. This session will explore practical
approaches\, emerging technologies\, and enabling conditions that can supp
ort greener\, smarter\, and more resilient ports\, while facilitating the
exchange of experiences and good practices.Questions for discussionWhat ch
allenges do the energy and digital transitions create for ports? What shoul
d ports prioritise when short-term efficiency and long-term resilience com
pete? How can better data sharing and coordination across the port communit
y improve efficiency and decision-making?What cybersecurity risks should p
orts consider as they accelerate digitalisation and the adoption of AI?Wha
t role can government policies and international frameworks play in suppor
ting port modernization and decarbonization?&lt\;p&gt\;Ports are critical
