SUMMARY:Start-up workshop for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence-Po
wered Transparency on Trade-Related Regulations for Gender-Sensitive Polic
ymaking in Africa - The Gambia
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:BackgroundThe project “Digitalization and artificial intellig
 ence-powered transparency on trade-related regulations for gender-sensitiv
e trade policymaking in Africa” aims to strengthen the capacity of four
 African countries – The Gambia\, Kenya\, Namibia\, Zambia – to improve
transparency on trade-related regulations with digitalization and artific
ial intelligence (AI) to better develop gender-sensitive trade policies. T
rade policy can have disproportionate effects on women traders and entrepr
eneurs\, as well as posing a risk to health and well-being of women throug
h products and sectors where women are heavily involved. However\, a lack
of transparency in trade-related regulations increases trade costs and rem
ains a major obstacle to design evidence-based gender-sensitive trade poli
cy. ObjectivesThe workshop aims to:Launch the project and present its ove
rall objectives\, planned activities\, expected outputs and implementation
approach to national stakeholders.Clarify roles and responsibilities of g
 overnment institutions\, private sector representatives\, women’s associ
ations\, organizations of persons with disabilities and other relevant sta
keholders in the project.Discuss mechanisms for dissemination and access t
o regulatory information\, including opportunities to make information col
lected through the project available through national trade portals.Identi
fy stakeholder needs and priorities related to gender-sensitive trade-rela
ted regulations and regulatory information\, and gather feedback to inform
project implementation. ParticipantsThe workshop will bring together:Gov
