Under a project to be funded by the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Economic Cooperation and Integration of Developing Countries (ECIDC) unit of UNCTAD in accordance with its mandate on South-South cooperation, will be undertaking studies, workshops and field missions to identify and promote potential supply chains in sub-Saharan Africa.

Addressing the opening ceremony today of the 9th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit and Exposition, and the 2012 Forum on China-ASEAN Free Trade Area in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi said that the China-ASEAN free trade area was an example of South-South regional integration that can promote scale economies, diversification and resilience.
Sub-regional consultations on leather industry to be held in Chennai, India

UNCTAD S-G joins in welcoming UN S-G's Zero Hunger Challenge

At the recently concluded Rio+20 sustainable development summit, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on leaders, business, civil society and individuals to step up efforts to end hunger, and launched a Zero Hunger Challenge. UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi has joined in welcoming and endorsing the challenge.
