Enhanced Integrated Framework

With a share of global trade of less than 1%, fresh ideas are needed to bring the world’s poorest countries into the international trading system.

In collaboration with the Academy of Global Governance, European University Institute (EUI) and with the participation of the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) Secretariat, UNCTAD organized a sub-regional workshop on 11-12 May 2016, in Florence, Italy, on how to build coordination in the implementation of the Diagnostic Trade Integration Studies' (DTIS) Action Matrices on trade facilitation, transport and transit for West African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger).

The government of Benin has begun implementing a Tier II project on Strengthening Productive and Trade Capacities of Benin, under the aegis of the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) of which UNCTAD plays an active role. The implementation phase was launched in Benin's seat of government, Cotonou, at a ceremony on 11 June 2015.

In Bamako, Mali, representatives from the government, the private sector, international organizations, academia and the civil society validated an UNCTAD-led update of the country's Diagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS) during a two-day workshop on 2-3 April 2015.

Sixty policy makers from 15 least developed countries in Africa came together to discuss mainstreaming trade into national policies aimed at reducing poverty.

The validation workshop of the Diagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS) update took place in Djibouti on 16 February 2015 - ten years after the realization of its first DTIS.

​UNCTAD held a panel discussion with the secretariat of the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) about the consequences for West African countries of the WTO's Bali Trade Facilitation Agreement in Banjul, the Gambia, on 17 June 2014.

UNCTAD works with UN partners to help the government of Cabo Verde get the most from its tourism sector and creative economy. ​

New UNCTAD-EIF study of the fisheries sector in The Gambia shows trade policies have to be inclusive if they are to reduce poverty.

As part of the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF), which is an action-oriented and multi-donor-led Aid-for-Trade initiative for LDCs, UNCTAD is assisting The Gambia to tackle production and supply-side constraints to trade.​
