The Sustainable Development Goals have multiple and vital linkages to "non-tariff measures" says UNCTAD in its latest Policy Brief. These non-tariff measures include regulatory policies to protect the environment and human, animal and plant life as well as non-trade barriers that have an effect on developing countries' poverty reduction opportunities.

The second edition of the online course on non-tariff measures, developed in cooperation between the Virtual Institute and UNCTAD's Division on International Trade in Goods and Services, and Commodities concluded July 19, awarding 58 participants the UNCTAD Non-Tariff Measures Data Collector Certificate.
UNCTAD to collect data on non-tariff measures in ASEAN countries

UNCTAD as the focal point for the collection of data on non-tariff measures, has recently expanded its geographical coverage to member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
In 2014, world merchandise exports grew by 0.6%, while trade in services recorded a 4.2% global increase

Estimates of global international trade for 2014 are published today jointly with WTO. These statistics cover annual and quarterly merchandise and services transactions - up to Q4 2014. Seasonally adjusted quarterly statistics are also available for the volume of international merchandise commerce.

According to preliminary estimates by UNCTAD and WTO, in the third quarter of 2014, world exports of services grew by 4.7% compared with the same quarter of the previous year (balance-of-payments basis, current prices).

According to preliminary estimates by UNCTAD and WTO, world exports of services rose by 7%, in the second quarter of 2014, as compared with the same quarter of the year before (balance-of-payments basis, current prices).
