With the financial support of TradeMark East Africa, UNCTAD analyzed gender and trade issues in five East African Community (EAC) countries – Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, and Uganda – to assess the impact of regional integration on women’s employment and quality of life.
The UNCTAD-TMEA collaboration generated several results during the period 2016–2018, including a study on "East African Community Regional Integration: Trade and Gender Implications”, an advocacy document on “Advocating for Gender-Sensitive Trade Policymaking in the East African Community”, a regional workshop in Nairobi on 9 May 2018, and an online course on “Trade and Gender Linkages in the East African Community”.
