UNCTAD has finalized an agreement with the Ministry of Trade and the Confederation of Chambers of Commerce of Colombia (CONFECAMARAS) to extend the eRegulations system beyond Bogota to another three cities and to build a national portal for the comparison of procedures required to start a business.
The project will focus on small enterprises and help them legalize their activities. It is expected that, once procedures are clarified and made transparent through the eRegulations system, they will be simplified and harmonised at the national level.
The system will be implemented in the cities of Cali, Medellín and Manizales. A national portal will give access to procedures in the 4 cities and will allow for comparison of procedures among cities.
The Colombian Ministry of Trade is making a contribution of 153 million pesos (USD 60,000) for this project which will be implemented over a 3-month period between October to December this year.
The move follows the installation of the eRegulations system in Bogotá in 2009, with the support of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The UNCTAD eRegulations system is currently in operation in over 20 countries. Numerous other countries and municipalities worldwide have requested its implementation.
